Aloysius Butler & Clark (AB&C), a marketing communications firm headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, was named number one in the annual News Journal Best in the Business competition in the small companies category. An independent research firm surveyed the employees of the participating companies, asking them to complete a questionnaire. The responses were analyzed and only the top 45 companies, out of 130 applicants, were included in the final list of winners. Companies were judged on critical workplace elements including management, work/life balance and, of course, pay and benefits. One hundred percent of the AB&C staff stated they were proud to work for the agency, and 97 percent expressed confidence in the company leader. Employees also lauded the company for teamwork, striking a good balance between work and life and operating without a lot of management layers or hierarchy. The company was also noted for its unusually high employee retention. AB&C president and CEO John Hawkins said the company was very pleased and honored to be named number one. “We have a great group of people,” said Hawkins. “It makes me very happy that they are happy. We really are a team.” AB&C is a 36-year-old communications agency established in business-to-business and consumer marketing. The agency brings a fresh perspective to local, regional, national and international accounts in a variety of industries, including healthcare, finance, technology and tourism.
